East Bengal, Bengal, India’s former footballer Tulsidas Balaram passed away. He was 86 years old at the time of death. Chuni Goswami, PK Banerjee and Tulsidas Balaram formed the dreaded trifecta in the history of Indian football. The golden generation of Indian football is written at his feet. He played for East Bengal Club from 1957 to 1962. Captained in 1961. Tulsidas Balaram scored a total of 104 goals for East Bengal Club. Balaram was the last surviving member of the Indian team that played football in the 1956 Olympics. Balaram was the star of the 1962 Asiad gold winning Indian football team. The Secunderabad-born footballer is regarded as one of the country’s greatest ever strikers. Balram, who won the Shield for East Bengal, was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1962. In 2010, the East Bengal Club honored him with a lifetime achievement award. Two-time Olympian Balaram coached BNR and the Kolkata Mayors team after quitting football. He died at a private hospital in central Kolkata at 2.05 pm on Thursday. He was suffering from various diseases for a long time. He was bedridden. In the end, he could not even remember anything. Sports Minister Arup Biswas, East Bengal club owners visited the hospital at various times and spoke to the doctors about his physical condition. With his death, the era of ‘PK-Chuni-Balram’ trio also ended.

We are saddened by the demise of the legendary Tulsidas Balaram. May his departed soul rest in peace wherever he is. The club’s flag was flown at half-mast as soon as the news of his death came.
