Parimal De is no more. In Maidane who was known as ‘Jangla’. He was eighty-one years old at the time of his death. He is survived by only son Pratik and son daughter-in-law Rimi K. He was born on the 4th of May 1941 in Kulin Para of Khardah. Parimal De got his first chance to play as a talented footballer in Calcutta Football League at Bali Pratibha Club. In the first year, he caught the attention of the East Bengal club by sending the ball into the net. After playing in Bali Pratibha Club for one year, he joined Uari Club in sixty three years. He scored goals against East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mahamedan Sporting Club that year while wearing a Uari club jersey. As a result, he was called up to play in the East Bengal club jersey in the 64 season. Parimal Dey was one of the leading footballers of Red Yellow from 64 to 70 years. After two years in the Mohun Bagan jersey, he retired from football after playing in the East Bengal club jersey in the 1973 season. He was the captain of the East Bengal club in 1988. He has the achievement of scoring in nine consecutive matches in the jersey of East Bengal club in sixty-six years. Earlier in 46 years, Swami Nair had scored in eleven consecutive matches wearing the red and yellow jersey. In the 1970 IFA Shield final, Parimal Dey became a hero with just two minutes left in the red and yellow jersey, scoring the winning goal against Pas Club of Iran. That match is still in the hearts of red and yellow fans. He has scored 84 goals in various tournaments in East Bengal club jersey. There are forty six goals in the Kolkata league. He scored two hat-tricks in the red and yellow jersey. Apart from playing in East Bengal club, he also played in the jersey of Bengal and Indian team. In 1988, he captained East Bengal to champions Bardalui, Nagji and Chakula Gold Cup. He has the credit of scoring a goal in India’s jersey against Korea in the Merdeka tournament in 1966. His goals in the Shield finals in 66 and 70 won East Bengal the title. This red and yellow warrior was honored by the East Bengal Club in 2014 with the Life Achievement Award. His death cast a deep shadow of grief in Kolkata Maidan as well as sports circles.  The East Bengal flag is flown at half-mast to pay homage to Parimal Dey. East Bengal club owners paid tribute to his body with red and yellow flags and garlands on his last journey.
