East Bengal Club Announces Two Landmark Initiatives Honoring Legacy and Social Responsibility
On the occasion of World Sports Journalist Day, East Bengal Club extends its heartfelt wishes to the dedicated professionals who chronicle, celebrate, and elevate the world of sports. Their tireless efforts play a pivotal role in shaping narratives, preserving legacies, and connecting fans to the heart of the game.
To mark this special day, the club is pleased to announce two meaningful initiatives that celebrate its proud history and reaffirm its enduring commitment to social responsibility and athlete welfare.
1. Introduction of the President’s Benevolent Fund
In keeping with its ethos of supporting those who have served the game with dedication, East Bengal Club is proud to launch the President’s Benevolent Fund. This initiative will provide financial assistance to:
• Sports journalists in distress
• Former players
• Ground staff
• Other support personnel associated with the club and the wider sporting community
The fund is designed to offer support during times of illness and medical emergencies. A total corpus of ₹10 lakhs has been allocated for this initiative. Each grant will be capped at ₹50,000 and will be disbursed following evaluation by a committee comprising members of the Sports Journalists’ Club.
Additionally, a separate corpus of ₹10 lakhs has been earmarked to support sports persons associated with East Bengal Club. Disbursements under this category will be managed by a committee of the club, with the same cap of ₹50,000 per beneficiary.
2. Enhanced Access to Club Media Room
As a gesture of appreciation for the media fraternity, East Bengal Club is opening its Media Room for use by journalists and media professionals. With prior intimation and subject to availability, members of the press are welcome to utilize the space for meetings, interviews, or collaborative work. This initiative reflects the club’s respect for the media’s invaluable role in chronicling its journey and promoting the larger sporting narrative.
These initiatives reaffirm East Bengal Club’s foundational values of gratitude, support, and inclusivity—honoring its storied past while striving to build a more compassionate and connected sporting ecosystem for the future.
