A memorial service for the late artist footballer Surojit Sengupta at the East Bengal Club tent

An artist with the ball in his foot is immortal…

A memorial service for the late Surojit Sengupta who was an artist par excellence with the ball was held on March 8 at the East Bengal Club tent. Musician Manomay Bhattacharya, former footballers Samresh Chowdhury, Shyam Thapa, Shyamal Ghosh, Prashant Banerjee, Mihir Basu, Bhaskar Ganguly, Alok Mukherjee, Bikash Panji, Manojit Das, Swarup Das, Swarup Das, Prasad were present to pay their respects with their songs and lyrics. Satyajit Chatterjee, Anit Ghosh, Rahim Nabi, Shasthi Dule and many more players. There were also many former cricketers including Sambaran Bandopadhyay, Randev Basu. In their speeches, the former players highlighted various unknown aspects of Surjit Sengupta’s life. Famous painter Subrata Ganguly was present on the occasion.

The wife of late Surojit Sengupta and his son were present on the occasion. At the beginning of the ceremony, a wreath was laid at the portrait of Surojit Sengupta.

East Bengal Club President Dr Pranab Dasgupta, Secretary Kalyan Majumder, Assistant General Secretary Rupak Saha, Executive Committee members Debabrata Sarkar, Dr Shanti Ranjan Dasgupta and Rajat Guha paid their last respects to the late footballer. Professor Abhik Majumder was also present.

Although he could not be present in person, Ashok Dasgupta, the news editor of Aajkal newspaper and Surojit’s friend in his personal  life, sent a message to pay homage to Surojit.

A documentary on Surojit was presented at the commemoration meeting. Prasoon Banerjee who has always regretted at not having played for East Bengal Club in his football career was presented with the number 7 red-yellow jersey. The entire program was conducted by journalist Gautam Bhattacharya.
