East Bengal FC were forced to settle for a frustrating goalless draw against Punjab FC in a high-intensity Indian Super League encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium. Despite dominating large phases of the game and creating several dangerous opportunities, luck deserted the Red & Gold Brigade on the night.

The home side started brightly, controlling possession and dictating the tempo through sharp passing combinations in midfield. East Bengal repeatedly attacked from the flanks and kept Punjab FC pinned back for long spells during the opening half.

A major moment of concern arrived when captain Souvik Chakrabarti suffered an injury and had to leave the field, forcing the coaching staff into an early reshuffle. Nevertheless, East Bengal continued to attack with intent and came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock on multiple occasions.

The biggest moments of heartbreak came through Miguel Figueira and Mohammad Rashid. Both players unleashed powerful efforts that beat the goalkeeper but crashed against the goalpost, denying East Bengal what looked certain goals. Miguel’s attempt drew loud gasps from the packed stadium before rebounding away, while Rashid’s thunderous strike later in the match met the same fate as Punjab survived two huge scares.

The second half became even more open, with both teams searching for the decisive breakthrough. Punjab FC threatened on the counterattack, but East Bengal goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh produced a series of crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet. His composure and reflexes under pressure proved vital for the hosts.

East Bengal kept pushing forward till the final whistle, but the finishing touch ultimately eluded them. Despite creating the better chances and striking the woodwork twice, the Red & Gold Brigade had to settle for a single point from the contest.

With this draw, East Bengal stayed at the top of the league standings with 22 points from 11 matches, keeping their title hopes firmly alive heading into the decisive final phase of the season.
