The stage is set for another chapter in Indian football’s most celebrated rivalry. East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant will lock horns in the final of the 126th IFA Shield 2026-27 on Thursday, October 8, at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium). Kick-off is scheduled for 6:15 PM IST.
The final brings together two of Kolkata’s football giants in a contest that carries significance well beyond the trophy. With the traditional rivals meeting in a major final once again, the IFA Shield gets the perfect setting for a Kolkata Derby finale.
East Bengal booked their place in the final in emphatic fashion, producing one of their most impressive performances of the tournament to defeat NorthEast United FC 7-2 in the semifinal on October 5.
The Red and Gold side recovered from an early setback to take control of the contest, with David Lalhlansanga scoring a hat-trick. Rohit Kumar, Chris Ikonomidis, Ake Arnaud Loba and Lukasz Zwolinski were also on the scoresheet as East Bengal turned the semifinal into a commanding victory.
Lalhlansanga’s performance in particular has added another dimension to East Bengal’s attacking threat. After scoring three times against NorthEast United, he will be one of the players Mohun Bagan’s defence will have to watch closely.
East Bengal are also chasing a 30th IFA Shield title, having already won the competition 29 times—the most in the tournament’s history.
This final adds another major meeting to what has already been a memorable series of Kolkata Derbies in 2026.
East Bengal defeated Mohun Bagan in the 2026 Durand Cup final, giving the Red and Gold side a recent cup-final victory over their traditional rivals. The IFA Shield final now gives Mohun Bagan another opportunity to respond on a major stage.
Interestingly, this is also the second consecutive IFA Shield final between the two Kolkata giants, adding another layer of history to Thursday’s encounter.
With the new 2026-27 ISL season approaching, Thursday’s final also provides both teams with an opportunity to enter the new campaign with silverware and momentum. But for the supporters, the significance is simpler: it is another Kolkata Derby, and this time the IFA Shield is at stake.
East Bengal will be looking to add a 30th Shield triumph to their remarkable history in the competition, while Mohun Bagan will aim to defend the title.
The Salt Lake Stadium is set for another night of Red and Gold versus Green and Maroon.
